Carole's Training & Orientation to Therapy

I believe we all do better when we experience meaningful, loving connections with others. As a therapist/coach, I can help you “clear out” impediments - fears, past experiences, hurts, unhealthy habits that get in your way of being in loving connection. Through discovery and practice, you can learn more satisfying ways of relating. I am particularly interested in helping couples develop safe, loving relationships.

I am known for my ability to inspire hopefulness in people which is shaped by my various life experiences. I have a warm and interesting style and I am able to create a safe place for the “work” of therapy to unfold. I will be here for you and your relationships.

I have studied many theoretical approaches to healing and growth and integrate the best of these in my practice. I rely heavily on the theory and practice developed by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D and Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ph.D which is called Imago relationship therapy. I, also, draw upon the tenets of humanistic psychology as well as on some of the work of internal family systems therapy developed by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D. I am passionate about my work and am committed to helping people develop safe, loving relationships.

I am a certified Imago therapist and workshop presenter and have given over 20 weekend workshops for couples. I also give 3-4 hour workshops on various topics of interest. I am a licensed master social worker (LMSW) and licensed Marriage and Family therapist (LMFT). I have been a therapist for over 40 years and have been a certified Imago therapist for 28 years.

I strongly encourage couples to read Getting the Love You Want by Harville Henddrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt as well as books and articles by other relationship specialists. In the resource section you will find TedTalks, podcasts, cartoons, bibliography, etc.

After 20 years of doing therapy in Ann Arbor, MI, I moved to New York City in August 2020 to be near my daughter and granddaughter. Even before I moved, I was doing virtual sessions with my couples as a result of Covid 19.

Since moving to New York in August 2020, I have continued “seeing” couples using ZOOM. Working virtually made it possible for my couples to continue their couples therapy journey with me. New Michigan couples started virtual couple sessions with me since I moved. I look forward to “seeing” New York couples as well.
